MCM301: Communication Skills

Communication

Communication is derived from the Latin word ‘Communico’ which means “sharing”. So the term “communication” means the process of sharing. One might ask, what do you share? Obviously – sharing information, which can be facts, ideas, thoughts, feelings, needs, etc. This sharing happens from one person to another for understanding.

Why Communication Is Important?

The importance of communication has always been recognized because it is the most important way in which people connect together in society. Today, however, communication plays an important role in virtually every aspect of life. Working in business, in government, or in organizations is not possible without communication. People need to communicate with each other, share information, make decisions, talk about new ideas, plans, suggestions, etc. They should also keep in touch with outsiders and people of other races and languages.

Communication is a learned skill. Most people are born with the ability to express themselves physically. But to communicate well and communicate effectively you need to learn the art and develop good communication skills. Speaking, listening, and our ability to understand the meanings of words and indirect skills are skills that we develop in a variety of ways. We learn the basics of communicating by looking at other people and changing our behavior based on what we see. We also learn the skills to communicate directly through education, and practice, and constantly evaluate the responses we receive from the people around us.

Communication Channels

Communication channels are a word given to the way we speak. It is therefore a method used to convey our message to the recipient or to receive a message from someone else.
There are many communication channels available to us today. This includes face-to-face chat, phone calls, text messages, email, internet (including social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter), radio and TV, text messages, brochures, and reports.
