Developmental Biology:

In males, gametes are produced in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Mammalian testicles consist of the following parts  Vas deferens  Epididymis  Semispherical tubules Semispherical tubule. The testicles consist of seminiferous tubules that produce sperm  Each tubule is surrounded by a basement membrane that is lined by the germ line epithelium . ALSO, SEE:

The germinal epithelium divides by mitosis to form spermatogonia (which division by meiosis to form spermatids)   Spermatids differentiate into functional sperm, which are subsequently released into the lumen of the tubule.

ZOO501Developmental Biology:

These developing sperm are nourished by Sertoli cells that reside in the tubule lining.  Outside the tubules are blood capillaries and interstitial cells (Leydig cells) which produce testosterone.

ZOO501 MIDTERM PAST PAPERS BY MOAAZ:

Cross-sections of male reproductive tissue Spermatogenesis in the seminiferous tubules begins on the outer lining of the tubule (germinal epithelium)  As germ cells divide by meiosis, they move toward the inner lining before being released into the lumen as sperm. ZOO501 MIDTERM SOLVED PAPERS: Non-dividing cells inside the tubule  the lining will represent Sertoli cells, which nourish a support spermatocytes Location of cells As germ cells divide by meiosis, they move toward the inner lining before being released into the lumen as sperm.
