MGT502: Organizational Behavior

This field of study examines human behavior in the workplace and determines its impact on job creation, performance, communication, motivation, leadership, etc. Organizational ethics present both challenges and opportunities for managers. It recognizes the differences and assists managers in recognizing the importance of employee diversity and processes that may need to be changed in management in different countries.

It can help improve the quality and productivity of employees by showing managers how to empower their people and how to design and implement change plans. It provides specific information on developing the skills of the manager. In times of rapid and ongoing change, which many managers face today, OB can help managers cope with the “temporary” world and learn ways to encourage innovation. Finally, OB can provide management with guidance on creating a healthier climate.

Forces Reshaping the Process of Management

Understanding organizational behavior is important for managers, who are responsible for improving organizational efficiency, and organizational ability to achieve goals. The goal is the desired future outcome that the organization seeks to achieve. The efficiency of an organization increases by reducing the number of resources, such as people or materials, needed to produce the value of goods or services. Organizations strive to find better ways to use and develop the skills and abilities of their employees. Train employees in the opposite way to do different tasks and discover new ways to organize employees to use their skills effectively to improve efficiency.

A global competitive challenge facing organizations is to invest in staff skills because better-trained employees use technology better. Increased competition has also put pressure on companies to increase the quality of goods and services they offer. Another way to increase quality is called Total Quality Management (TQM), a method borrowed from the Japanese. TQM incorporates a new philosophy of ethical management in organizations and incorporates features such as giving employees the responsibility to find ways to do their job effectively and ways to improve quality.

The Importance Of Studying Organizational Behavior (OB)

OB uses the knowledge gained by individuals, groups, and structural influences on behavior to make organizations more effective. It is about researching what people do in an organization and how that behavior affects the functioning of the organization. There is a growing consensus on OB components, but there is still much debate about the relative importance of each item: motivation, leader behavior and power, interpersonal communication, team and process formation, learning, attitude and vision development, transformation processes, conflict, job design, and job stress.
