Forces Shaping the Future and The Mega-Trends of Knowledge-Economy

Mega Trends The term mega trend has been used by John Naisbitt to describe the basic process that shapes the future. In his 1982 book Megatrends, he identified ten key shifts that reshaped the world. • Categories Network Information and Knowledge-Based Industry Information and knowledge is pervasive in all sectors of the industry and building new industries based around them. There are a few distinct features of this new economy.

1. Every industry is becoming more knowledge-intensive

. In agriculture too, knowledge adds value. By combining information on the effect of fertilizer, soil conditions, crop growth conditions (using information from satellite imagery), and forecast weather conditions, farmers can use 40 percent less fertilizer on their crops but achieve similar results. A new generation of hybrid crops automatically measures the weight and moisture content of maize and calculates the yield per hectare. 

2. Smart products

. Another manifestation of the strength of knowledge lies in the so-called ‘smart products’.
