EDU431: Test Development & Evaluation Notes (pdf)

As teachers become more familiar with data-driven education, they make decisions about what they teach and how they teach based on the information gathered from their students. In other words, teachers first find out what their students know and do not know, and then determine the best way to close the gap. EDU431 Handouts pdf

Measurement, Assessment, and Evaluation

Evaluation

Measurement is the process by which the attributes or magnitude of an object (both visible and invisible) are measured. The tools used for this purpose may include assessment, checking, checklist, homework, portfolios, project,s, etc. (The process of converting a person’s ability into numbers is a measurement). Measurement can be easily understood if we use the term to measure length and distance because these objects are physically present in their existence so the length can be easily measured by the scale. But in the field of education, our flexibility is not physical and cannot be directly measured e.g. attitude, behavior, success, etc. all of this is abstract, so there is a difficult balance among those who are physically fit.

Testing

Evaluation is the process by which information is obtained in relation to a known purpose or goal. Exploring a broad term that includes testing. Testing is a special type of test. Tests are tests that are performed under conditions that are specifically designed to be performed. In other words, all tests are experimental, but not all tests are experimental. It means testing something to improve the quality of teaching and learning to determine what else can be done to improve teaching, learning, and outcomes.

Assessment

Assessment is the process of conducting quantitative judgment on learning outcomes and targeted behavior, determining quality and level of learning. Assessment is always related to your purpose, aligning your teaching purpose with what students have achieved in the end, and their quality and learning value. EDU431 HANDOUTS

Maximum Performance

Maximum performance testing determines what a person can do when they do their best. Eg. check students in the area where they show their best performance. The process of this type is about how well each person performs when they are encouraged to get as high a score as possible. This type of test includes Aptitude tests and Success tests.
