What is Project Management?
Project Management is the art of maximizing the potential for a project to deliver on its objectives in a timely manner, with the required budget and quality. CS615 Handouts pdf download
The art of planning for the future has always been a hallmark of man. In fact, a project can be photographed on paper with a few simple things: start date, end date, tasks to be completed and when to complete it, and a specific idea of the resources (people, equipment, etc.) that will be needed during the project.
Project management is the use of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to perform project tasks to meet project needs. Project management is done through processes such as implementation, planning, execution, control, and closure. It is important to note that many processes within project management are repetitive. This is in part due to the presence and need for further clarification of the project throughout the life cycle of the project; that is, the more you know about your project, the better you can manage it.
What is Software Project Management?
Software project management is the art and ethics of planning and managing software projects. It is a small area of software project management where software projects are planned, implemented, monitored, and managed. It is a process of managing, allocating, and scheduling resources to develop computer software that meets the requirements.
Project management in software engineering is different from conventional project management. Software project management has a unique life cycle process that requires multiple cycles of testing, review, and customer feedback. CS615 HANDOUTS
Software Project Manager
A software project manager is someone who is responsible for doing a software project. The software project manager is well aware of all the stages of the SDLC software that would go through. The project manager may never be directly involved in the production of the final product but manages and controls the activities involved in the production.
Software Project
Software Project is the complete process of software development from demand collection to testing and refinement, which is done on a case-by-case basis, within the allotted time to achieve the intended software product.
Project Planning and Execution
The purpose of project planning is to identify the project scope, evaluate the work involved, and create a project plan. Project planning begins with the requirements that define the software to be developed. The project plan is then developed to describe the activities that will lead to completion. Project execution is the process of completing the tasks outlined in a project plan.
Project Monitoring and Control
The purpose of project monitoring and control is to keep the team and management up-to-date on project progress. If a project deviates from the system, the project manager can take action to fix the problem. Project monitoring and control involve status meetings to collect status from the team. When changes need to be made, change control is used to keep the products up to date.
